A study among 10,900 participants in Bangladesh found Sedentary Workers has significantly higher prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, and overweight/obesity than Non Sedentary Workers. Among sedentary workers, disease prevalence rate is

• 1 in 3 (32.9%) for hypertension,
• 1 in 7 (14.5%) for diabetes, and
• 1 in 3 (32.9%) for obesity and overweight

A study among 410 bank employees from different banks found that prevalence of non-communicable diseases with multiple risk factors for NCD is too high among the participants. The disease prevalence rate found was:

• 1 in 3 (34.15%) for Anaemia,
• 1 in 3 (32.9%) for Hypertension, and
• 1 in 6 (17.32%) for Diabetes

72.7% of the subjects had three or more risk factors for non-communicable diseases.

A study with randomly selected 614 RMG workers from 6 factories in Bangladesh found roughly

• 1 in 2 workers (50.9%) are obese or overweight,
• 1 in 3 workers (34.0%) are hypertensive or pre-hypertensive, and
• 1 in 5 workers (17.9%) are having diabetes or IGT.

A substantial proportion of RMG workers are at an increased risk of CVDs which need focused attention to reduce smoking (among males) and body-weight and central obesity, particularly in females.

A study among 352 university academic staff(a typical sedentary/white color group) in Bangladesh found:

• General obesity prevalence: 26.7%
• Abdominal obesity (by waist circumference): 46.9%
• Hypertension prevalence: 33.7%

Female staff had a significantly higher prevalence of both general and abdominal obesity (41% and 64.1%, respectively) than male staff.

A study on 605 new students of 50 universities in Bangladesh found:

• More than half of the students (52.6%) became physically sick after admission.
• The majority (81.5%) of the respondents felt mental pressure, and
• The maximum (83.3%) were concerned about their mental health condition,

Nevertheless, the medical centers of the respective institutions were completely heedless in the majority (79.3%) of cases.
